Editorial Policy

School Age Calculator exists to answer one family question accurately: "what grade is my child in, and when do they start school?" This policy explains the standards behind every guide, table, and calculator on the site.

What we publish

We publish practical parent guides, state-by-state reference tables, and interactive calculators covering kindergarten eligibility, grade placement, cutoff dates, and school starting ages for the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK. Content is written for parents first — plain language, direct answers, and the reasoning behind them.

Sourcing standards

Cutoff dates and eligibility rules are sourced from primary materials wherever possible: state education codes and statutes, government education department pages, and official district policies. Where a rule varies by district, we say so explicitly rather than presenting a single date as universal. We prefer a correct "it varies, check your district" over a confident but wrong single answer.

Accuracy and updates

Education rules change — for example Ohio's HB114 changed the state cutoff for the 2026–27 school year. We review time-sensitive reference content at least annually and flag recently changed rules on the page. Each guide shows a "last reviewed" date. Material corrections are logged publicly in the changelog.

Independence

This site is an independent reference tool. It is not affiliated with any government education department, school district, or tutoring service. Advertising (when enabled) is clearly separated from editorial content and never influences the information we present. We do not accept payment in exchange for favorable coverage of any school, program, or product.

Authorship
